Our Staff - 2023-2024

  • Sylvia Wolff - Director (also, Founding board member & on WEVS teaching staff since 2014)

    • Sylvia helped found WEVS as co-innovator and board member before she transitioned to a teaching role in 2014. Sylvia has taught every subject to every grade at some point for WEVS.  After completing her elementary education degree at Purdue University, she moved to Corolla in 2001 and took over the local Ocean Rescue program as the Division Chief in 2004. Sylvia continues to compete in regional and national life saving competitions and is involved in local ocean safety programs. She has a Master’s in School Administration from UNCW.

  • Liz (née Fennimore) Voldish - Lower Math and 2-8th Science Teacher, Special Education Coordinator, came to WEVS in 2016

    • Liz teaches our middle elementary math and science, as well as our elementary art and middle school music. She hails from New Jersey, where she was a special education aide.  She is an inspired teacher as well as artist and art teacher. Liz graduated from Rowan University with a Bachelor's Degree in Art Education. After that she attended Rutgers University to gain graduate credits for her Special Education certification. She has spent her last several summers working in town at the Mystic Jewel and Mystic Gift.

    • Degree: BA in Art Education, currently pursuing Master’s in Education for Reading and Literacy

    • NC Licensure: Elementary Education k-6, Science 6-9, Art k-12, Exceptional Children k-12

  • Julie Allen, Special Education Aide & Classroom Aide; Came to WEVS in 2018

    • Julie returned to education in 2018 after an 18-year career in Fire and EMS. Prior to that, she used her Bachelor’s in Special Education and Elementary Education from Fitchburg State and her Master’ Degree in Rehab for the blind from Boston College to teach blind and special needs students in Florida and Massachusetts. She has taught across all grade levels and learning needs. She has resided on the Outer Banks for over 20 years.

    • Degree: BA in special education, MA in Visually Impaired Education

    • NC Licensure: EC Cross Categorical k-12, Visually Impaired k-12

  • Kat Fretwell, K/1 classroom teacher, came to WEVS in 2017

    • Kat was a substitute teacher for WEVS, then a classroom aide, and after student teaching here is now a licensed, classroom teacher for WEVS and has been been since 2021. She grew up on the Outer Banks and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from UNC-Charlotte with a minor in Children’s Literature. She has her TEFL/TESOL certification and used to tutor for Mano al Hermano. She lived in northern Spain and worked as a nanny while there. Kat is also a well-known server at North Banks Restaurant.

    • NC Licensure: Elementary Education k-6,

  • Seth Gill, 2/34 ELA and Social Studies; came to WEVS in 2020

    • Seth worked as our Teachers’ Aide for two years before becoming a residency-licensed English teacher for WEVS. He grew up in Richmond and received a BA in English from VCU. He is in his last year of an education degree at UNCW. Seth has a long history of sports volunteerism including with Surfing for Autism and Jimmy V. Foundation. He was a trail technician for Trails Across Texas Crew. Before moving to the Outer Banks he taught in Richmond.

    • Degree: BA in English, currently pursuing Master’s in Education

    • NC Licensure: Elementary Education k-6,

  • Jess Kelly, 4-8 ELA; came to WEVS in 2022

    • Jess hails from New Jersey but comes to us after teaching 5th grade in Nashville, Tennessee. She has spent summers in Corolla and many will recognize her from her many years working at our local bakery. She is a lover of literature and knew from a young age she wanted to be a teacher, but she can also be found singing locally at weekly open Mic nights.

    • Degree: BA in middle grades education, Minor in Special Education

    • NC Licensure: Language Arts 6-9,

  • Bettie Lee Moore, 4th-8th Grade Math teacher, came to WEVS in 2023

    • Bettie Lee Moore has been a 1st and 4th grade teacher, a math specialist for K-8 students, and also a high school math teacher (Algebra 1, II and Calculus). She is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in school policy from Johns Hopkins University, and is looking forward to making her Corolla home her primary residence. We are so grateful to have her on board!

    • Degree: BA in Educational Psychology, currently pursuing MA in Education Policy

    • NC Licensure: none currently

  • Meghan Agresto, Board President (2020-2023 term)

    • Managing the nearby Currituck Beach Lighthouse since 2005 and not wanting to move when her two children became school-aged (or put them on the bus for 4.5 hours a day), Meghan - along with Director Sylvia Wolff - began the process of finding a way to start a school in Corolla. A two-time UNC-Chapel Hill graduate, she speaks Spanish fluently and spent three years living in Europe, one as a Fulbright scholar in Athens, Greece. Her two children both graduated from WEVS, her older son as its first 8th grade graduate and her younger son as its first 9-year graduate having started as a kindergartner in the 2012-2013 when WEVS had 15 students. Meghan also serves on the Capital Campaign Committee and Facilities Committee.

  • Al Marzetti, Vice President (2020-2023 term)

    • Al joined the Board of Directors in 2012, the year the school opened its doors! Before retiring to Corolla, Al worked for a number of multinational companies managing Tax, Treasury and Risk Management functions. He currently serves as the local Magistrate as his retirement gig. Al is also President of Corolla Fire & Rescue Squad and CFR Foundation and a board member of Ocean Sands POA. He has a B.A. from Boston College, a J.D. from Columbus School of Law at Catholic University, an LLM (Tax) from Georgetown Law Center, and an Executive MBA from Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. Al serves on the Facilities Committee.

  • Allison Broughton, Secretary, (2022-2025 term)

    • Allison joined our board at our annual meeting September 2019. She is working on her Master’s Degree in Multicultural and Transnational Literature. Allison is a 500-hour Registered Yoga Teacher, a body builder, and a local business owner. We have her to thank for our thorough board minutes.

  • Bryan Daggett, Treasurer (2022-2025 term)

    • Bryan comes to us after a 30+ year career with DuPont, which allowed him to travel extensively, both nationally and internationally. He joined our board in 2012 and continues to volunteer his services as WEVS, both in an instructional capacity and as a handyman. He splits his time between Corolla and Delaware where he is on a board of his local YMCA and is helping them with a capital campaign. Bryan chairs the Facilities Committee for the board.

  • Susan Taylor (2012-2025 term)

    • Susan is a founding board member and retired science teacher with 37 years of experience in Baltimore County Public Schools. She chairs our board’s curriculum committee. She has a liberal arts degree with a major in biology and a minor in education from St. Joseph College, in Emmitsburg, Maryland. She has been a Corolla resident for over 15 years, and is involved in many community organizations including Corolla Friends of the Library, Corolla Fire and Rescue, NC Coastal Federation, and Planning Board for Currituck County.

  • Wayne Evans (2023-2026 term)

    • Wayne is a founding donor for our building campaign, and a very active member of our capital campaign committee. Wayne and his wife, Betty, hail from Pennsylvania, and reside in Ocean Hill while supporting the Steelers from afar!

  • Marcy Moore - WEVS teacher 2016-2021, WEVS board member for 2021-2024 term

    • Marcy began teaching at WEVS in 2016 after following the Corolla Education Foundation with enthusiasm even before our official inception (remember Linguini for Learning days?)! For 5 years she helped teach our K-3 students (and provide social emotional support to our older students who loved her). She came to us with almost two decades of teaching experience, and moved here from Richmond when her husband retired. She loves the WEVS family and the community that supports it. She grew up in Richmond, VA, and received her degree in elementary education from VCU and her master’s from Piedmont University. We welcome her as a new member to our board!
