FAQs about our Goal:

- The Corolla Education Foundation is a non-profit whose only function is to operate the Water’s Edge Village School (known as WEVS - pronounced “waves”). Our EIN is 27-5002997

- WEVS currently has 50 students in grades K-8 (80% Currituck residents, 20% Dare). We expect to have 60 once the building opens for the 2025-2026 schoolyear.

- Highlighted donors thus far include the Evans Family, Bryan Daggett, the Twiddy Family, TowneBank, the Corolla Chapel, OBXTek, Outer Banks Community Foundation, 100% of the board of the Corolla Education Foundation, SAGA Community Focus, Outer Banks Boil Company, Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation, multiple family foundations, anonymous donors, and a generous foundation level pledge.

That last classroom never did get named though: Make a lasting impact and donate $100K to name our final classroom; Your space that will inspire generations to come!

How about that campaign?!

We have had matching fund drives, goods donated for raffles, two summers of almost every local businesses donate for“Hang 100 for 10%” events, a one-day almost $80,000 in donations 2024 Corolla Cup, parents’ time donated for open houses, and baked goods given for fundraisers. Local individuals, leaders, businesses, and over 900 community partners, trusts, businesses and individuals have donated!

We are Full - And growing!

With years of generosity from the Corolla Chapel and having more than 20 local students on our waiting list, it was time to grow! After acquiring the property next door to the Historic Schoolhouse, we broke ground in late 2023, worked our way through pile driving, and with our incredible builders A.R. Chesson Construction, have an almost complete 4,000ft2, 3 classroom building with a principal’s office, meeting space, a common room, and a teachers’ lounge! WEVS is required to maintain and make available for review public records in accordance with state law. Some records may contain confidential student information protected under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and therefore may not be available for review.

Our mission: Water’s Edge Village School provides local education to its isolated coastal community, a place rich in natural resources and environmentally-focused organizations. Galvanized by a diverse community of people deeply invested in the success of a local school and grounded in partnerships with children and families, WEVS provides a rigorous, child-centered learning environment. Leadership principles and an academically challenging, integrated, hands-on curriculum empower students by instilling a sense of social and environmental responsibility while nurturing both body and mind.
